Who is Steve Gibbons?
Steve Gibbons was born in Harborne, Birmingham, England, on July 13, 1941. He started his professional life as a plumber's apprentice, but soon discovered his passion for music. He joined a local band called The Dominettes in 1958, which later changed their name to The Ugly's. The Ugly's had some success in the UK and Australia with their singles "Wake Up My Mind" and "It's Alright". They also recorded some songs with Jimmy Page and The Move.
In 1970, Gibbons left The Ugly's and formed a new band called Balls, with Trevor Burton and Denny Laine. However, the band did not last long, and Gibbons joined The Idle Race as their lead singer. He also worked as a session musician for The Who and Roger Daltrey.
In 1975, Gibbons formed his own band, the Steve Gibbons Band (SGB), with Bob Wilson on drums, Dave Carroll on guitar, Trevor Burton on bass, and Bob Lamb on keyboards. The band signed with MCA Records and released their first album, Any Road Up, in 1976. The album was produced by Tony Visconti and featured some guest appearances by Daltrey and Dave Edmunds.
